My father and I have been John Hartford fans for many years. I saw John at the Ryman in Nashville several years ago during one of the Martha White Bluegrass Nights. I finally carried my father to see him this past December at the Station Inn in Nashville. I didn't tell my father who we were going to see and he didn't even notice any of the signs as we entered. After a while waiting inside, my dad went outside for some fresh air. While outside in the rain and sleet, John and his wife pulled up in their Cadillac. When my dad saw John, he then knew who he was there to see. John said,"What are you doing out here in the rain?" "Waiting for you!" my dad said as he held the door open for John. As my wife, mom and I waited inside for my dad I said,"I can't believe he can't figure out who he's here to see...watch him hold the door open for him!" I couldn't have scripted it better!
Thanks for the memories and music which will stick with me for the rest of my life. God's speed John Hartford!
