About 15 years ago my wife & I were visiting Nashville and disembarked from one of the tour boats when I saw this guy I recognized as John Hartford sitting on a box alongside one of the big riverboats. I had a postcard & pencil in hand and went over and asked for an autograph. He slowly signed his name in the most perfect handwriting I have ever seen. I have many autographs from other celebrities and sports figures and nearly all of them are scrawled quickly & illegibly. This morning, after reading his obituary in the Miami Herald, I went into my file cabinet and found that autograph and showed it to my daughter. It is so perfect, she asked if it was caligraphy done with a stylus. Imagine, someone feeling that even something as simple as writing one's name for a stranger was worth doing beautifully!
