I met John at the Berlin, VT, airport, that day. That was back when they still had a couple commercial flights. I'd offered to take him up to Burke Mountain. He bought me dinner in Montpelier, and we headed off to the festival. Stopped at my place for a minute in St.J, where he noticed I was taking out an old clawfoot bathtub. He was trying to arrange to get it shipped to his home, said he wanted to put it out in his yard.
I'd asked him at dinner to play "Simple Thing as Love" that night when my wife would be with me to hear it. Hours later when Vasser and John came on, he played my request. The song wasn't really the direction he and Clements were going musically, at the time, but he did it anyway. Thanks, we really appreciated it. Hope our paths converge again sometime, somewhere.
